Currently I am running a poll which asks people if they are learning Japanese:
(poll closed)
So far, either most people want to or are studying Japanese. This really isn’t much of a surprise as I would think that the majority of people who visit this site at least have some interest in Japanese culture and I [...]
It’s カタカナ time! Now we are on to “カ to コ”
Lesson 2 - カ to コ。
カ - KA
Cut the bread with a sharp knife.
The first stroke here outlines the break. Then the second stroke is a knife, cutting though the bread. Easy to remember because it is a more angular hiragana か without the second [...]
It’s カタカナ time! Katakana is the part of the Japanese Writing System that I perhaps have the most trouble with - I still have to sound out each syllable, and I can barely write it - only words that I know well. Even sounding out words is difficult - as often I’m trying to make [...]
OK, this lesson in hiragana is soooo damn easy you should be able to get it in ten minutes. There are only three characters on this line! Here they are:
Lesson 8 ー や to よ
や - YA
Looks like a yak. Here in Australia the way we pronounce yak uses the wrong “a” sound, however it is easy to see [...]
Ma Mi Mu Me Mo… Sing with me! Ah… OK, learn them anyway you want, but really, what’s wrong with my singing??
Lesson 7 ー ま to も
ま - MA
Apparently this is a telephone poll with the wires so you can call your ma. Yeah, I can’t remember how I learnt this one. lol. But, maybe you see it?
み [...]
On to lesson 6.
Lesson 6 は - to ほ
は - HA
Remember け (ke)? It stood for “keg”. Here is our keg again, but now it has a hole in it. And everyone is laughing at us… “ha ha!” So yes, ha is the thing to remember this by. It can get confusing with the next [...]
Now we are at the half way mark! Woo hoo!
Lesson 5 な - to の
な - NA
Looks like a Nun kneeling before the cross. This one is so easy to learn because I find that so easy to visualise. Along with the next one:
に - NI
Looks like a knee. The vertical line is one edge [...]
On to the た row. I have always found this row as the easiest to master.
Lesson 4 - た to と
た - TA
This one is so easy! It already looks like “ta” in English. You can’t get any simpler than that.
ち - CHI
Picture this as a ball of cheese with a fancy tooth pick.
Remember, don’t [...]
Time for some more Hiragana! I hope it is going well for everyone. I think separating these into bite size posts makes you see how easy these are to learn. We are onto the さ row now, so let’s go!
Lesson 3 - さ to そ
さ - SA
A samurai sword and the cut it has made.
(For [...]
Now it’s onto ka to ko!
Lesson 2 - か to こ
か - KA
Looks like someone bending over, getting a cut from a whip.
き - KI
A key and lock.
く - KU
The beak of a kookaburra.
け - KE
Looks like a keg of beer.
こ - KO
It looks like a coin.
And that’s it for today’s lesson. Some tips [...]
